Ok, for too long have I heard that Arthas is leading armies of undead or Arthas is held up in icecrown citadel. Or maybe you have heard this one? ” I just did the quest line for the cinematic and I saw Arthas fighting the Alliance and Horde….”

The simple truth is that it is not Arthas people! Or rather it is not solely Arthas. It is the Lich King.

Go ahead and say it……

Arthas is the Lich Ki…

WRRONG!!

While Arthas is present, it is the Lich King that is leading the undead and the ultimate enemy in the newest expansion for World of Warcraft. The Lich was originally  Ner’zhul who was an orc shaman of considerable power back in Outland before it became the crumbs in Kil’jaeden’s soup. It was Kil’jaeden who ripped Ner’zhul’s soul out of it’s husk and imprisoned it within a full set of armor. This said armor was then sent to Azeroth as a pre-invasion plan and happened to land in Northrend atop of what we know as the Frozen Throne. Ner’zhul used his newly found abilities to coax the dead to do his bidding and soon armies rose to his call and plagues destroyed thousands. During this, Arthas; Knight of the Silver hand and heir to Lorderaen felt it was his calling to put an end to the tragedies around him. So he set out to end this all however he could. Along the way, Arthas became corrupt and eventually when he took Frostmourne (Ner’zhul’s sword) he was a changed man. Arthas eventually became a powerful Death Knight and did the bidding of the Lich King.  It was not until Ner’zhul was indanger of being destroyed that Arthas shattered the Frozen Throne and merged with Ner’zhul to become the Lich King that we know of.  The Lich King now is a perfect blend of Arthas’s body, mind, spirit, and strength with Ner’zhul’s wisdom, power, soul, and corruption.

Although the Lich King started as a pawn of Kil’jaedan, he seperated from him long ago and became his own evil entity that wishes to see all of Azeroth his own.
